The SADP Tool (Search Active Device Protocol) is a network utility used to detect, configure, and manage CCTV devices on a local network. The Mac version allows Apple computer users to scan their network and identify connected IP cameras and NVRs by IP address, port, and activation status.
While the Mac version supports basic device discovery and IP modification, security installers who need full device activation and advanced configuration typically use the Windows version or a Windows virtual machine on Mac hardware.
How to Use the SADP Tool on Mac
- Download and install
Download the .pkg.zip file, extract it, and run the installer. macOS may prompt you to allow the app in Security & Privacy settings.
- Allow network access
When prompted, allow SADP through macOS Firewall. Go to System Settings → Network → Firewall → Allow SADP.
- Connect to the same network
Ensure your Mac is on the same subnet as your cameras — use Ethernet rather than WiFi for more reliable discovery.
- Launch and scan
Open SADP Tool. It automatically scans the local network and lists all discovered devices with IP address and status.
- Modify IP settings if needed
Select a device and update its IP address. Note: activation requires admin credentials — use Windows version for full activation capability.
When Should You Use SADP on Mac?
Good Use Cases on Mac
- Discovering what cameras are on the network
- Checking device IP addresses and status
- Basic IP address modification on already-activated devices
- Verifying cameras are online after installation
Better on Windows
- Activating brand-new cameras for the first time
- Resetting lost admin passwords
- Full device configuration and firmware updates
- SADP not detecting Mac-side firewall issues
Mac Limitations
- Some activation features not fully supported
- Occasional network discovery issues on WiFi
- Older Mac versions may have compatibility issues
- Consider Windows VM for full functionality
Troubleshooting SADP on Mac

Frequently Asked Questions
Does SADP Tool work on Mac?
Yes, there is a free Mac version available. However, the Mac version supports basic device discovery and IP configuration. For full device activation, password reset, and advanced configuration, the Windows version is recommended. Running Windows in Parallels or VMware Fusion on Mac gives you full SADP functionality.
Why is SADP not finding devices on my Mac?
The most common cause is macOS Firewall blocking SADP's network broadcast. Go to System Settings → Network → Firewall and allow SADP. Also ensure your Mac and cameras are on the same subnet, and use Ethernet instead of WiFi for more reliable device discovery.
Can I activate cameras with SADP on Mac?
Device activation has limited support on the Mac version. If you need to activate brand-new cameras, use the Windows version of SADP — either on a Windows PC or via a virtual machine like Parallels on your Mac.
What is the file size of SADP for Mac?
The SADP Tool for Mac download is 18 MB. It installs as a standard macOS application. No account or registration required.
