Tripod Turnstiles

Crafted with stainless steel, 2M Technology’s line of mechanical tripod turnstiles offer an effective barrier against unauthorized access while streamlining entry for authorized individuals. Their sturdy design provides durability in high-traffic areas and restricts forcible entry. After permitting access, the rotating arms securely lock in place, preventing tailgating and ensuring that only one person can pass through at a time.

What Is a Tripod Turnstile?

A tripod turnstile is a waist-height access control barrier with three rotating arms arranged in a 120° triangle. One person passes per arm rotation — making the tripod turnstile the standard one-person-at-a-time entry control device for offices, factories, transit stations, and event venues. 2M Technology’s tripod turnstile line integrates face recognition and thermal detection directly into the unit, eliminating the need for a separate reader column.

Tripod Turnstile Comparison — 2M Technology Models

Model Authentication Thermal Detection Traffic Rate Best Application
2MTT-2 Face recognition + card Wrist sensor 30 persons/min Office buildings, corporate lobbies
2MTT-3 Face recognition + card Forehead sensor 30 persons/min Manufacturing, industrial facilities
2MTT-4 Face recognition + card + QR Dual sensor 30 persons/min High-security facilities with visitor management
2MTT-7 Face recognition + card + fingerprint Wrist sensor 25 persons/min Government buildings, multi-factor requirements
2MTT-8 Face recognition + card None 35 persons/min Standard commercial entry — cost-optimized
2MTT-9 Face recognition + card + palm vein Dual sensor 25 persons/min Clean rooms, pharmaceutical, labs

Tripod Turnstile vs. Other Turnstile Types

  • Tripod turnstile vs. full-height turnstile — Tripod turnstiles allow tailgating by a person who crouches under the arms. Full-height turnstiles prevent this completely — used where absolute access control is required (prisons, high-security facilities). Tripod turnstiles are appropriate where some human supervision exists.
  • Tripod turnstile vs. flap barrier (wing gate) — Flap barriers open fully for ADA/wheelchair access and allow faster throughput in premium environments. Tripod turnstiles are more cost-effective and more durable in industrial settings.
  • Tripod turnstile vs. optical turnstile — Optical turnstiles use sensors without physical barriers and are preferred in corporate lobbies for aesthetics. Tripod turnstiles provide physical deterrence for environments where aesthetics are secondary to control.

Installation and Integration

All 2M Technology tripod turnstile models connect to standard Wiegand and OSDP access control panels. Each tripod turnstile ships with mounting hardware, power supply, and API documentation for integration with HR, visitor management, and time-attendance systems. Field installation takes 2–4 hours per lane. See the Security Industry Association (SIA) for access control integration standards.
