Handheld Metal Detectors

A handheld metal detector is the standard tool for secondary screening after a walkthrough metal detector gate alarm — and for patrol-based screening where a fixed gate is impractical:

• Secondary screening lanes — When a walkthrough metal detector triggers an alarm, a security officer uses a handheld metal detector to identify the exact location of the detected object. This is the most common deployment at courthouses, schools, and government buildings.
• Crowd patrol — Officers moving through a seated crowd at a stadium, arena, or outdoor event use handheld metal detectors to screen individuals without requiring them to stand or move to a gate.
• Vehicle and bag inspection — Handheld metal detectors can scan bags, backpacks, and vehicle interiors for concealed weapons — useful at construction site checkpoints and parking garage security stations.
• Temporary checkpoints — When a walkthrough gate is not available or not warranted, a single officer with a handheld metal detector can establish a functional screening point at any doorway or open area.
