Thermal cameras detect heat signatures rather than visible light, making them effective in complete darkness, smoke, fog, and adverse weather where standard IP cameras fail. 2M Technology supplies these systems for perimeter security, critical infrastructure protection, wildfire early warning, industrial process monitoring, and explosion-proof hazardous area installations.
Thermal cameras use uncooled microbolometer sensors to detect long-wave infrared (LWIR) radiation emitted by all objects above absolute zero. The sensor converts thermal energy into a grayscale or false-color image based on temperature differences — a human body standing against a cool background appears clearly even with no ambient light. Unlike near-infrared (NIR) cameras that require IR illuminators, thermal cameras need no external light source at any range.
Sensor resolutions range from 160×120 (short-range compact units) to 1280×1024 (long-range perimeter systems). Detection ranges from 50m (small format) to 15km+ (long-range PTZ). Sensitivity (NETD) of 25mK or better on all units. Operating temperature -40°C to +60°C. Most units output H.265 RTSP streams compatible with standard VMS platforms including Genetec, Milestone, and Hikvision iVMS.
