Strategic Camera Placement

In a medical clinic, where you place cameras is just as important as where you do not. It was a strict requirement that absolutely no cameras were installed inside any patient exam rooms. Instead, we prioritized high-traffic and critical operational areas, heavily focusing on the customer service desks to monitor patient check-ins and staff interactions.

Privacy Adjustments

After reviewing our initial comprehensive floor plan diagram, the clinic requested an essential privacy adjustment. We originally excluded cameras from the phlebotomy (blood draw) rooms out of concern for patient privacy. However, the clinic clarified that monitoring is actually necessary in these specific areas for liability and staff safety. • Unified Management: The entire ecosystem, including the UniFi Protect cameras, UniFi Access door readers, and UniFi Network equipment, is managed from a single, highly intuitive interface.
• Remote Access: Clinic administrators can view live feeds, review playback, and configure camera settings directly from their smartphones using the secure UniFi mobile app.

Modern Access Control

To secure the facilities, we deployed UniFi Access Control at key entryways and restricted zones. By utilizing keyfob entry, staff can now move fluidly through the clinic without fumbling for keys. At the same time, this ensures that unauthorized individuals cannot access highly sensitive areas like administrative offices and medication storage rooms. Furthermore, management retains complete control over area permissions. They can easily track access logs and instantly revoke entry credentials for former employees.

Security Applications

Because UniFi integrates so seamlessly with existing networking, the clinic’s IT company was able to utilize the platform’s backend applications to further optimize the system:

• VLAN Segregation: High-definition cameras generate a lot of traffic. The IT team configured a VLAN to keep the security devices entirely separated from the clinic’s medical network. This ensures camera feeds never consume the bandwidth required for medical imaging and patient records.
• Multi-Site VPN: UniFi’s secure VPN capabilities allowed the clinic to connect their different networks securely. Management can now easily view cameras from any of the separate locations without exposing the video traffic to the public internet.
